Why are Young Professionals Moving to Boston?

How to make your transition to urban life easy, affordable and fun:

Thousands of recent graduates are flocking to the city of Boston for two reasons: careers and new living arrangements.  New residents, homes, and other building developments are transforming the city at incredible rates. In fact, according to Casey Ross of the Boston Globe, in 2010 “Boston’s population grew by 7,500 people, and is now above 625,000, its highest level since the 1970s, according to city data” (Ross 2013).

But, the major issues surrounding this migration of YoPro's are not found in consumer interest levels. It is the cost. Despite efforts to make apartments in Boston more affordable for city residents, no policy has been successful. The average rent in Boston is about $1,700 per month with some luxury rentals reaching close to $4,000 per month (Ross 2013). Unfortunately, many students do not have this kind of money yet. For instance, many are just beginning to develop new professional careers and are still working to first pay of their student debts from college.

NG Living is scheduled to open our first location in Boston on June 1, 2015 – just in time to help recent grads move into the city to begin their first jobs. We understand that money does not come easy and we want to help you be successful in your transition to city life.

Here are three ways you can make Boston easy, affordable and fun with NG Living:

  1. Apply for housing:  Residents will live in downtown Boston and pay less rent. All you need to do is help maintain the complex through work in our cafĂ©, bar, or other areas of personal preference.
  2. Adjust to Boston: Moving to the city may be intimidating for many former students coming from a small college campus lifestyle. NG Living provides a temporary solution and confidence boost for new city dwellers. Live in NG Living until you feel that you are financially and socially comfortable enough to transition into your own apartment.
  3. Live with other YoPro’s: All residents in NG Living are in similar positions: recent graduates looking for jobs, beginning their careers, and transition to a new urban lifestyle. Share this exciting and fun experience with others while utilizing the complex’s number of community spaces.
